About us

EarUnit

management and concert productions association

The purpose of EarUnit is:

To promote electroacoustic music in Denmark by organizing concerts and opportunities.

To create networks abroad with ensembles, musicians, museums and concert organizers and venues.

To commission works by Danish composers for premiere performances.

To collaborate with other entities so that once the initial concert production is paid for, it can tour to other concert organizers.

As far as possible, to document audibly and visually the music performed by EarUnit.

To build a solid audience and public interest for the association's activities.

EarUnit is an management and concert productions association. Thanks to support from governmental and especially private funds, EarUnit has achieved great results through personal engagement and collaborations with ensembles and major institutions such as the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK), Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, SPOT Festival, DEFINE Festival, CLICK Festival, AFSMK (American Friends of SMK) and the Royal Danish Academy of Music e.g.

Throughout the year, EarUnit produces and co-produces concerts together with festivals, concert associations, alliances, and concert venues for contemporary music at the intersection of electronic and acoustic music and visual art. The goal is to bring the music to where the audience is. Therefore, we are not limited to being in a specific place but are often found where the audience is, in various other musical contexts and interesting collaborative setups. EarUnit works to create a more permanent forum where it is possible to hear the unheard and unknown new generation of composers and their music, which lies at the intersection between the traditional genre designations in classical and rhythmic senses. EarUnit has a handful of ensembles closely associated with its activities, such as Contemporánea – Live Electronics Denmark, Copenhagen Art Ensemble, Messerkvartetten, Adapter (Berlin), Ars Nova (Malmö), Jack Quartet (NYC), American Contemporary Music Ensemble (NYC), Transit Ensemble (NYC), Ensemble Mosaik (Berlin), Duo ConCordis (CH), Zoë Martlew (GB), Trio Ismena, Toke Møldrup, Nordic String Quartet, Rudersdal Chamber Players, Messiaen Quartet Copenhagen, NeoQuartet.

EarUnit was founded in 2008 on the initiative of Carsten Bo Eriksen together with Ejnar Kanding.
